You will also find these kinds of magnets in many school science classrooms around the world. They are made from iron oxide in a ceramic composite. These kinds of magnets aren’t very strong. Alnico magnets are constructed from aluminum, nickel and cobalt. While this kind of magnet offers a much strong magnetic field than ceramic magnets, they are still not the strongest. The final group of magnets made from rare-earth metal fall into two groups; neodymium and samarium cobalt. You won’t find any magnet stronger than ones made from rare-earth metal

So just how do magnets work? When you point all the magnetic domains in magnets in the same direction, you experience the effect that magnets have. A magnetic domain is basically a small magnet in itself. Usually, the magnetic domains in iron and other magnetic materials aren’t aligned and they cancel each other out. The strength of a magnetic field increases as you align more and more magnetic domains in the same direction. This is why magnets function as they do.
