This video shows the method that I will be using to conduct elapsed time tests of various rotor magnet layouts on the metal plates of the flywheel. This method will allow for a high degree of precision, which will be untainted by human error factors. I will be able to determine the precise interval of each start/stop duration, down to 1/100ths of a second. This will help me to determine if a change in rotor magnet layout, no matter how small, is going to be beneficial or detrimental, and takes all the guesswork out of the equation. The solution that I will be using for these timing tests centers around a wonderful software progam named XNOTE STOPWATCH, which was developed by Dmitry Nikitin, who has a website you can visit at www.xnotestopwatch.com You can download and try out XNOTE STOPWATCH for free, and purchase and registration of the program is only 24 dollars, a true bargain for a program loaded with so many useful features. This video is a continuation of video #33, and further explains how I will be using the software program, XNOTE STOPWATCH, for my elapsed time experiments reagarding various rotor magnet layouts on the Pipe Dream prototype. These experiments will allow for very precise and accurate data aquisition that I can import to an Excel database file. The results will be proof positive whether or not a change in a rotor magnet layout, no matter how slight, will be effective at improving rotor speed and acceleration. This video shows the results of populating the added 4th arc plate with magnets. I also show results and comparisons of 2-plate and 1-plate configurations.

This video shows the arc plate, made in video #38, added to the wood flywheel, and tested to determine what effect adding the plate alone has upon performance when compared to prior test results shown in video #39. For the next video, I will populate the new plate with standard magnet groupings and perform another test series for comparison.

This video shows the results of a 5-test comparison of the magnet layout seen in video #36, and shows how I have used the data from those results to tweak the individual magnet groups for better performance. Knowing the precise elapsed time, or “Gap time” of each individual rotor magnet group tells us which groups are the weakest performers, and we can focus our attention on making these particular groups stronger. I show how I make a group stronger by adding a magnet, either double-stacked or single, and then compare test results to determine the actual performance gains. This video shows how the mechanical systems for the new stator movement strategy have been designed, manufactured, and assembled. I had hoped to have enough time near the end of the video to show a demonstration of the new systems in operation, but ran out of time before I could do so. Several people have asked me how I make up the steel plates which are mounted to the birch plywood flywheel of the prototype, so I thought I would make this video to show how it is done. Nothing fancy, and no special tools required. The idea is to keep things simple so that anyone can do this and save the expense of a machine shop making up parts.

This video completes the three video series showing how XNOTE STOPWATCH software, coupled with external control devices and switching, will be used for precision testing of various rotor magnet layouts. The next video in the Pipe Dream series will describe a new and improved rotor magnet layout, and will show a live elapsed time test of the layout, using both the start/stop function for overall elapsed time, and the snap function to determine the elapsed time intervals for each grouping section of the rotor magnets. There are six grouping sections in the new layout, so there will be six snaps shown in the test results. Each snap can be thought of as a snapshot of time, and the time intervals between the snaps will provide very useful information. It will help to determine not only improvements or detriments caused by magnet layout changes, but also will tell us if each grouping section is accelerating or slowing the rotation, and by how much. In this video I show some new modifications and enhancements that I have made to the Pipe Dream prototype since making video #29. While I am considering the best way to proceed with the proposed method of moving the slider carriage and pivoting stator by magnetic repulsive interactions, I decided to proceed with some non-related magnet experiments that I have been wanting to try for quite some time now. This video explains the Pipe Dream prototype additions and alterations that were needed in order to carry out the experiments.
