This video is a continuation of track tests shown in videos #22 through 24, and shows additional tracking modifications and testing. The second track layout is modified at the tail end to give less linear movement to the stator carriage, and the gap between the stator magnet and rotor magnets is lowered to 1 inch from the previous 1.5 inch gap. The reduced gap produces stronger rotational thrust, while the track modification reduces drag. Together, these changes do produce much better results than were previously possible. I will be trying out further modifications to the track system, which will consist mainly of utilizing short track segments between the magnet groups, and doing away with track portions that are currently used during a rotor group progression. Once set up and adjusted properly, I will spin the rotor up to 100 rpm with external means and then time the period of rundown to zero rpm. While this data will be useful knowledge, I do expect the rotor to eventually run down to zero rpm because of the lack of repulsion acceleration at the tail end of the rotor magnet groups. I am certain that additional means must be utilized to gain that desired repulsive effect, as it clearly won’t be possible with the track alone. For further information, and insight on current prototype enhancements, please visit the Pipe Dream website: rickspipedreamproject.uuuq.com Note: An animation showing the new MOSTAT method can be found on the Archive page of the Pipe Dream website …

This video is a continuation of videos #22 and 23, and shows the configuration and testing of the second test track layout. A pull test is also shown, which demonstrates the resistive pressure encountered between the track and stator carriage wheels during the previous tests. The pull test shows that the resistive drag force encountered ranged from 3 to 6 ounces. To avoid this drag, the second track is configured so that there is minimal resistance throughout the progressing rotor magnet group, with stator movement only at the tail end of the group. This allows full rotational movement through the group, but leaves the North pole of the stator positioned above the tail end of the rotor group, and this of course is undesirable since it will cause a strong attraction that will slow down the rotor, stop rotation, and even cause it to reverse direction once the last magnet of the South rotor group has passed beyond the stator’s North pole. To avoid this, there must be rapid movement of the stator carriage, at the tail end of the rotor magnet group, so that the South pole of the stator is brought into repulsion with the last rotor magnet. It appears that such rapid movement may be impossible to achieve with the track system, and that other means will need to be employed for this purpose. I will be exploring such methods in the coming days, and these will include mechanical and magnetic means. In order to achieve continuous rotation, both the attraction and repulsion forces …

This video provides an update on the build status of the Pipe Dream prototype. All components of the stator tracking system are now completed and mounted on the Pipe Dream apparatus. Several timing track test strips have been laid out on Masonite arcs which can be attached to the polycarbonate ring shown in the previous video. After a few final adjustments have been made, I will begin testing to determine which of the test track arc layouts works best. Sorry for the delay in creating this video. This phase of the construction process required a considerable amount of time to complete, and I have also been quite busy with other aspects of the Pipe Dream project. A Pipe Dream website is now up and running, and can be found here: rickspipedreamproject.uuuq.com A two part Pipe Dream builder’s document is available for download from the website, and features well over 100 pages of photos and step-by-step instructions for building the complete Pipe Dream apparatus as shown in these videos. A Pipe Dream Interactive Data Form has also been made available for downloading at the website, and this is to be used by all Project participants to report and share build specifications and test data. All data received will be made freely available to other replicators and experimenters. By freely and openly sharing information in this way, the Project can move forwards in the most efficient and cost effective manner possible. The Pipe Dream Project is a world-wide open source project …

This video shows the 26+5/8″ diameter 3/4″ birch plywood flywheel ring which has been attached to the bike wheel, and a spin test is performed with the stator at full height above the rotor. The flywheel has some runout that throws the wheel off balance, which of course is a negative aspect that needs to be addressed. Also, the 3+3/4 pound additional weight will cause further drag on the bearings, which are already in rough shape. Thus, I perform this test spin not knowing if these negatives can be overcome by the magnetic forces of attraction and repulsion, and whatever amount of inertial momentum that can be provided by the flywheel. Does it work? Watch and see…….

In this video I demonstrate how the stator arm can be readjusted for use in a position where the stator magnet is aligned across the wheel rim, and used to produce continuous rotational movement. I may have moved the stator magnet more than is actually necessary with this technique, since the movement required is only 1″ maximum swing, and just 1/2″ will actually work well too. This method should be accomplished with the pivot point centered directly over the wheel rim, rather than at the corner of the frame as I now have it, but this dual use stator arm still works well enough to demonstrate with. The most difficult task involved is in maintaining proper timing, because after 4 or 5 movements of the arm, the wheel is spinning quickly enough so that the rotor magnet groups tend to visually blur together and the start and end points of each group cannot be distinguished. With a mechanical tracking system, there would be no problem maintaining correct timing. While this method definitely is workable, and has distinct advantages over the “lifting” method described in video #12, this is not my preferred method. I will demonstrate the preferred method in my next video. I hope you enjoy this, and thanks for watching, Rickoff
